ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
INSPECTING ANVIL CLEARANCE
When inspecting inside the spout every possible safety precaution must be
followed!
1� Throttle engine down to an idle and disengage the clutch.
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS, CUT, PINCH HAZARD: Make sure the drum has
come to a complete stop before attempting any maintenance�
CAUTION: Do not use your hand to check for drum movement�
CAUTION: Two (2) people are required at all times when inspecting anvil�
2� Raise the feed wheel yoke and engage lock.
DANGER/THROWN DEBRIS, CUT, PINCH HAZARD: Shut power unit off
and perform Lockout/Tag out procedures before any maintenance is
performed�
3� Crawl into the infeed bed with a feeler gauge and a light.
4� Rotate drum backwards until the high knife is aligned with the anvil.
DANGER/CRUSH HAZARD: Failure to use yoke locks may result in serious
injury or death�
5� Loosen all bolts on anvil both sides (except horizontal bolts with jam nuts.)
6� To adjust anvil, loosen jam nuts (6) and adjust until clearance of .045-.050 In is
attained between knife and anvil.
NOTE: Due to variances in anvil straightness, a deviation of .025-.035 In clearance
between knives is acceptable.
7� Check both sides to make sure the anvil is parallel with the knife.
8� Once proper clearance is set, tighten all bolts on anvil both sides.
