SAFETY OPERATION
MACHINE START-UP
NOTE: Most engines include a safety shutdown
system. This system will shut down if coolant
temperature is too high or oil pressure is too low.
If service is required, please contact your nearest
authorized dealer.
NOTE:
On machines equipped with a permissive
start button, hold the button in, start the engine and
hold the permissive start button until oil pressure
reaches operating pressure (approx. 5 seconds.)
Check all engine uids.
WARNING: Make sure the chipper hood is
secured and latched before start-up
Start the engine according to your engine
operator’s handbook, located in the rear of
this manual.
Let the engine idle according to your engine
operator’s handbook until the engine stabi-
lizes.
CAUTION: Do not allow the engine to idle
with the clutch disengaged for no longer than
2-3 minutes or failure to the pilot bearing will
occur.
Engage clutch at 600-800 RPM by slipping
(bumping) the clutch for a 2-3 second count.
Disengage the clutch handle and allow the
engine to regain RPM’s, then fully engage the
clutch handle.
NOTE:
Listen for noise that might indicate broken
or loose machine parts. If unusual noise is detect
-
ed, the machine should be shut down immediately
and evaluated by a competent person.
CHIPPING WOOD
Always position the throttle at full RPM while
chipping.
Feed material into infeed spout. Never allow
your hands to enter the infeed spout. Feed
short material by placing it on top of longer
material that is feeding into the chipper.
Observe gauges throughout operation.
NOTE: For proper break-in, it is recommended that
you begin by feeding 2” - 3” diameter material into
the chipper and gradually work up to larger diame-
ter material during the rst 4 - 8 hours of operation.
