1 Essential Information
IMPORTANT► FlashBack-4 is designed to operate with SD cards of up to 256GB. New SD
Cards must be formatted by the FlashBack-4 before use (see section
3.2, page 12).
IMPORTANT► It is important to set the time-zone, date and time before use. This can be
set via the SD Card Configuration Wizard (see Section page 4, page 15).
1.1 Introduction
FlashBack-4 is a rugged and miniature DC-powered DVR designed for covert surveillance
installations. The product features one HD (High Definition video) input, or four SD (Standard
Definition video) inputs, and utilizes efficient H.264 compression to record video to a
removable SD card.
The HD input interfaces to a dedicated low-power micro-HD camera or can alternatively be
used with standard HDSDI cameras via an external adaptor. The four SD video inputs
support both PAL and NTSC and it is possible to record each SD channel individually, or all
four as a single high definition quad. Two channels of audio are recorded alongside the video
via internal or external Knowles microphones.
For flexibility, recording is controlled by local start / stop buttons, external trigger inputs,
internal motion detection or timers. The RS232 input can log external GPS receiver data
alongside the recordings. A web browser-based player is provided that shows recorded video
with a time-line of motion and audio activity as well as a Google Map showing the GPS track.
This user guide is for version 1.2 firmware. Further free updates, including networking, RTSP
streaming etc. will be posted to Ovation Systems’ Secure User Area (see Section 7, page 20)
