Whiletravelingdownsteephills,
gravitywilltendtospeedyouup.You
mustgoslowenoughthatyourbrakes
canholdyoubackwithoutgettingtoo
hot.Ifyouridethebrakepedalandthe
brakesgettoohot,theymay"fade",
causingyoutopressevenharderin
anattempttomaintainyourdesired
stoppingpower.Thebrakesmayeven
fadesomuchthatyouwon’tbeableto
slowdownorstopatall.
Usinglowertransmissiongearswill
helpkeepthevehiclefromgoingtoo
fast.Usinglowergearsallowsengine
compressionandfrictiontohelpslow
thevehicle.Besuretobeinthe
rightgearbeforeyoustartdowna
hill,especiallyifyouhaveamanual
transmission.Youcouldgethungup
inNEUTRALandlosethebenetof
enginebraking."Coasting"isillegal,
andalsoVERYdangerous.
Anti-LockBrakingSystem
Thisvehicleisequippedwithan
Anti-LockBrakingSystem(ABS).
ABSreducesthelikelihoodofa
wheellocking.Ifawheelisabout
tolockduringbraking,theABSwill
automaticallyadjusthydraulicpressure
tothebrakecalipersontheappropriate
wheel(s)topreventwheellock-up.The
ABSisautomaticallyactivatedwhen
theignitionswitchisturnedon.
CAUTION
Thecenterpinofthe7-waytrailer
lightlinemaybeconstantlypowered
forABS.Makesureitwillnotacci-
dentlyturnontrailerequipment.
ABSWarningLamp
TheABSwarninglampwillcomeon
briey,thengooff,whenthekeyswitch
isrstturnedon.Ifthelampremains
ONuntilaspeedof4mph(6km/h)is
reached,thengoesOFF ,theremaybe
astoredfaultcode.Ifthelampremains
ONwhenaspeedinexcessof4mph
(6km/h)isreached,theremaybean
activefaultintheABSsystem.
CAUTION
IftheABSwarninglightdoesnot
illuminatewhentheignitionisrst
turnedon,thereisaproblemwith
thebulborwiring.Youshouldhave
thischeckedassoonaspossible.
