RPM Limiter Function
If the engine overheats, the thermal switch becomes conductive and provides a ground path for the tan wire lead-
ing from the terminal board and the Multi-Function Display. The Multi-Function Display will display a “HOT” warn-
ing message, the warning light will flash, and the engine RPM will be limited to approximately 3500 RPM. A circuit
within the CDI senses the ground path connection and activates the limiting function.
Important Note: When the engine overheat circuit has caused the system to limit, it will continue to limit until
both of the following conditions are met:
1. The problem that caused the initial limiting must be corrected (cool engine);
AND
2. The operator must momentarily release the throttle and allow the RPM to fall below 3500.
Reverse RPM Limiters
The following 2002 watercraft will limit in reverse mode:
S Virage -- Manual Reverse
S Virage TX -- Manual Reverse
S Virage i -- Manual Reverse
S Virage TXi -- Manual Reverse
S Genesis -- PERCt
S Genesis i -- PERCt
PERCt = Polaris Electronic Reverse Control
The 2002 Virage, Virage TX, Virage i, and Virage TXi are built with a manual reverse system. When the reverse
lever is engaged in either neutral or reverse, a switch is contacted, putting the CDI in limiting mode.
The 2002 Genesis, and Genesis i will limit RPM whenever the reverse control thumbpad is pressed in either neu-
tral or reverse.
