24. Insert the left and right handrails into the upper clamp. Diagram 16. Insert the
upper end of the handrail into the upper handrail clamp. Using one hand, apply
pressure on the portion of the handrail being inserted into the clamp while, with
the other hand, lift and lower the base of the handrail. This rotating motion helps
move the handrail into the clamp. Repeat this step for the opposite handrail.
25. Check the gap in the upper clamp. Diagram 16, inset. Look underneath the
handrail clamp to see that the gap, which exists between the two ends of the
handrails, is no greater than 1/2-inch. See Diagram 16.

26. Secure the handrails. Diagram 17. Align the handrail base mounts with the
handrail bracket. Insert two bolts (F) and washers (G) and finger tighten. Repeat
this step for the opposite handrail.
a. Check the gap between the ends of the handrails in the clamp. Refer to
Diagram 14, inset.
b. With the gap between 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch, tighten the bolts in the
handrail clamp using the hex key provided.
c. Return to the bolts (F) in the base of the handrails and tighten each
securely using a 9/16" socket extension and wrench.
