7.4.4 Firmware updates
Access: [Setup] > "System Configuration" > "Firmware Update"
During instrument start, the installed hardware is checked against the current firmware
version to ensure the hardware is supported. If not, an error message is displayed
( "Wrong Firmware Version" ) and you are asked to update the firmware. Until the firm-
ware version is updated, self-alignment fails. To see which components are not suppor-
ted, see the System messages.
The firmware on your R&S ZNL/ZNLE may also need to be updated in order to enable
additional new features or if reasons for improvement come up. Ask your sales repre-
sentative or check the Rohde&Schwarz website for availability of firmware updates. A
firmware update package includes at least a setup file and release notes.
Administrator Rights
By default, Windows
®
User Account Control is enabled on the instrument to prevent
unwanted system-wide changes. Hence you need administrator rights to install a new
firmware version. Refer to the Getting Started manual for details.
Before the update

Carefully read the release notes provided with the firmware.

Do not perform the firmware update while a spectrum measurement is running
(R&S ZNL only).
If a spectrum measurement is running, stop it by activating the corresponding tab,
selecting the [Sweep] key and toggling the "Continuous Sweep" or "Single Sweep"
softkey, whichever is highlighted.
