3 Hardware
The instrument is an automated multi-channel
pipetting instrument used
to
extract,
purify, and prepare target nucleic acid
for subsequent PCR testing on the analyzer.
After sample preparation, the microweli
plate with the PCR-ready samples is
unloaded, sealed, and transferred
to the analyzer for amplification and detection
using real time PCR.
The procedure for sample preparation is as follows:
1. Specimen-specific processing
2. Generic binding, washing, and elution
3. Working master mix preparation and PCR-setup
Depending on the test, the instrument is able
to process up to 96 samples (94 patient
specimens plus two controls) in a single run.
The
main

of the instrument are shown in Figure 3-1.
