8.3.2 Update firmware via TIA Portal (STEP 7 Basic / Professional)
This section is intended only for S7 users.
Requirements
• The reader is connected to the controller or PC via Industrial Ethernet or PROFINET.
• The IP address of the reader is stored in the module parameters.
• The reader is separated from running operation.
Note that performing the update while the application is running can slow down both the
update and command processing.
• The required update files were stored locally.
Procedure
Proceed as follows to perform a firmware update of the reader via STEP 7 Basic / Professional
(TIA Portal):
1. Start the TIA Portal.
2. Open your existing project and change to the project view.
3. Change to the network view.
4. Right-click on the required reader and select the "Online & diagnostics" entry in the shortcut
menu.
5. Select the entry "Functions > Firmware Update via Web Interface".
6. Click the "Run firmware update" button.
Reaction: The WBM of the reader opens in your Web browser.
7. Continue the firmware update as described in the section "Updating the firmware via WBM
(Page 94)".
