Safe Handling of Li-Ion Batteries
Preparing your office for safe handling of Li-Ion batteries:
• Separate battery warehouse from the site where charging is
taking place.
• Keep batteries in its original inner packaging or equivalent at the
warehouse. Also, separate batteries from each other to prevent a
burning battery from igniting adjacent batteries.
• Only charge during office hours (use mains timer).
• Make sure that charger is standing firmly at the table and are not
in danger of falling to the floor during charging.
• Have foam extinguisher, CO2 or ABC dry chemical available on
sites where batteries are handled regularly.
Note! There are also new types of fire extinguishers on the
market, especially made for Lithium battery fires.
• Have fire alarms on sites where batteries are handled regularly.
• Have a metallic bucket half filled with sand available to put
batteries into in case of a battery fire.
• Interpret the "In case of Li-Ion battery fire" instruction example
into all local languages used in the office.
• Place the safety instruction easily seen in all sites where batteries
are handled.
• Inform personnel about the instruction.
• Report all safety related events to management.
