17. TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTION
The engine does not turn off
The engine brake cable is bent or
jammed
Check and/or adjust the cable
[ 13.1]
The earth cable is disconnected or
broken
Check and/or replace oil breather
tab [ 12.1]
The engine does not stop
within 3 seconds after it has
turned off
Faulty or no clutch lining
Replace the engine stopping system

The engine uses a lot of oil
Faulty blow-by operation
Check and/or replace the blow-by sy-
stem [ 15.4]. Check the condition
of the air lter [ 8.1]
Poor piston ring seal
Replace the rings [

Excessive gap between the guide
and the inlet valve stem
Check and/or replace the valve

Ring assembly error
Check the assembly of the rings

Starter motor does not run
Flat battery Check and recharge the battery
Battery not inserted correctly Insert the battery correctly
Problems with the electric circuit and
the devices tted to the machine
Check all the electrical connections
and the efciency of the control de-
vices tted to the machine.
Electrical insufciency of the starter
motor
Replace the starter motor
The starter micro switch is faulty
Replace the micro switch

The starter motor turns but
cannot start the engine
Battery insufciently charged Check and recharge the battery
Mechanical inefciency of the starter
motor
Dismantle the motor and clean the
pinion zone [ 7.2]
Broken ywheel
Check and/or replace the ywheel
[ 15.3]
The engine does not start or
starts badly
Starting motor short circuit (burnt rotor
and stator)
Replace starting motor [

No earth
Check electrical cabling of earth wire

The coil is faulty and does not supply
current or the air gap is too large.
Check coil
