4.5. Hostnames
The hostname is an address in the form of text instead of numbers (for example: GEN30-25-125). This
address mode is less common than the IP address because the hostname cannot be viewed from it’s front
panel, and because a naming service (such as NetBIOS) must be running in the LAN computer.
A custom hostname can be created through the web pages (see section 6.6.2). For example, if the hostname is
changed to “
Heater_3” then a control program can send a command to Heater_3 and it is easy understand.
After a “LAN Reset” is done (see section 5.3), the power supply will create a default hostname based on
the model and serial number of the supply.
The default hostname is in the format:
< Product > < Voltage rating > – < Current rating > – < last 3 digits of serial number >
If the rating has a decimal point, substitute “p” for the decimal point. For example,
Model Serial Number Default Hostname
GEN40-38-LAN 047Z120-0136 GEN40-38-136
GEN300-5-LAN 048Z084-0028 GEN300-5-028
GENH30-25-LAN 048Z105-0026 GENH30-25-026
The power supply may be set to one of three network modes, each with a different way to use the hostname.
This is shown in the table below.
