WHAT IS INSULATED AND NOT INSULATED
The insulating boom section only prevents
current from passing from the band of arrows at the boom
tip to the lower band of arrows. All components above and
below that area must be considered conductive.
The boom tip is everything past the upper band
of arrows. All boom tip components are structurally and
electrically connected. Contact with any part of the boom
tip will energize the entire boom tip including, controls, jib,
winch, and platform support structure.
Death or serious injury to the operator or ground
personnel can occur if any part of the boom or boom tip
contacts an energized conductor, ground line, grounded
line, or OBJECTS. Proper clearance must be maintained.
You must always cover the line and wear rubber
gloves with rubber sleeves and an approved hard hat
when any part of the Aerial Device is working on or near
energized lines or conductors even when working on a
grounded line, neutral line, or ground line.
Neutral, static and ground lines are current
carrying conductors and require proper handling. Treat
them as energized.
You must read the operators manual to fully
understand the protection the Aerial Device will give you.
Anytime the platform occupant(s) contact two items at different potential without
proper personnel protective equipment, their body may become a path for electric
current, and they may be electrocuted. This includes touching the controls, any
tools, or items on the boom tip while also contacting a line or ground.
