OPERATION GUIDELINES
MANUAL LET DOWN SYSTEM
Provides a way to get personnel to the ground during a unit power failure using gravity. This system provides
a manual hydraulic pump that can supply enough pressure to bypass the cylinder holding valve using a pilot
operated check valve. This allows some of the basic movements needed to lower the platform to the ground.
It is important to plan a course of action before operating the Manual Let Down System. A proper sequence
of events can help assure a complete path for the platform from its raised position back to the ground.
The manual let down system works by gravity only. It can not raise a boom. Plan the movements required to
get the platform to the ground. The let down system operates only the Lower Boom, Upper Boom, Lower
boom extension and will release the rotation brake.
NOTE: The Upper Boom cannot be retracted using the Manual Let Down System.
NOTE: The handle for the manual hydraulic pump is located above and to the left of pump, fixed
to the adjacent cover. This picture illustrates the Manual Let Down System without the
covers in place.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Boom Functions: Only operate one function at a time.
1. Select the function desired for the sequence planned and lift selector handle, lock in “out” position.
2. Pump handle until the function begins to move.
3. To stop function move selector back to “in” position.
4. To increase speed operate lower control lever.
5. When movement is to the desired position move selector to “in” position to stop movement.
6. Repeat for the next function.
After using the manual let down function cycle boom through full range of motion from the lower controls
before operation from the platform. Use Manual Let Down only if primary or auxiliary pump systems do not
work. Return all selectors to down position for normal operation.
Rotation:
1. Rotate the knob CW, so it is to side, and pump up, two strokes.
2. Use a 7/8 in. wrench to manually rotate the rotation motor stub shaft the direction desired, to make
rotation easier, activate the rotation control lever.
3. To return to working position rotate knob CCW, so it is upward, as shown above.
Operate only one function at a time. Selecting more than one function can cause
unexpected movement causing failure to place the platform at the desired location
on the ground or prevent the platform from reaching the ground.
When operating Manual Let Down system the operator must ensure booms stay in
allowable operating range to prevent tip over or structure failure. No interlocks and
limit system functions when using Manuals Let Down system. Retract lower boom
before lowering lower boom.
