OPERATION GUIDELINES
AVOID TRAPPED LOOPS
When winding a line with no load back to the winch drum, lower the boom so that a crewman with gloves can
make sure that it is wound level. Trapped loops will damage the winch line or cause a load to drop on the
next winch pay out operation.
Use only synthetic rope for winch line. Do not use wire rope.
Do not allow winch line to come in contact with guyline, pole, crossarm, ground, or
any object that can create a path to ground or energize the winch line.
Dirt, grease, other foreign matter, moisture and humidity will all contaminate the
winch line - keep it clean.
Death or serious injury will result if winch line becomes energized.
Inspect rope daily before use.
Use only hooks with a safety latch.
Always keep the winch line wound level and tight on the winch drum.
Do not pull poles or pull any objects embedded in ground. Death or serious injury
will result.
Be sure load line is capable of lifting the load. Personal injury or death could result
if load line breaks when lifting the load.
Do not use winch line as a sling with the load line hooked back on itself - use a
separate sling or rigger.
