Useasparkplugwrenchforremovingandinstallingthe
sparkplugsandagappingtool/feelergaugetocheck
andadjusttheairgap.
RemovingtheSparkPlug
1.Settheparkingbrake,stopthepump,stopthe
engine,andremovetheignitionkey.
2.Releasethelatchonthebackoftheseatandliftthe
seatforward.
3.Pullthewiresoffthesparkplugs(Figure49).
4.Cleanaroundthesparkplugstopreventdirtfrom
fallingintotheengineandpotentiallycausing
damage.
5.Removethesparkplugsandmetalwashers.

1.Lookatthecenterofthesparkplugs(Figure50).
Ifyouseealightbrownorgraycoatingonthe
insulator,theengineisoperatingproperly.Ablack
coatingontheinsulatorusuallymeanstheaircleaner
isdirty.
Important:Donotcleanthesparkplugs.
Alwaysreplaceasparkplugwhenithasablack
coating,wornelectrodes,anoilylm,orcracks.
2.Checkthegapbetweenthecenterandsideelectrodes
(Figure50)andbendthesideelectrode,ifthegap
isnotcorrect.
