Note: A void knocking the lter into the side of
the body .
7. Remove the inner lter only to replace it.
Inspecting the Filters
1. Inspect the safety lter . If it is dirty , replace both
the safety and primary lters.
Important: Do not attempt to clean the
safety lter . If the safety lter is dirty , then
the primary lter is damaged.
2. Inspect the primary lter for damage by looking
into the lter while shining a bright light on the
outside of the lter . If the primary lter is dirty ,
bent, or damaged, replace it.
Note: Holes in the lter appear as bright spots.
Do not clean the primary lter .
Installing the Filters
Important: T o prevent engine damage, always
operate the engine with both air lters and the
cover installed.
1. If you are installing new lters, check each lter
for shipping damage.
Note: Do not use a damaged lter .
2. If you are replacing the inner lter , carefully slide
it into the lter body ( Figure 38 ).
3. Carefully slide the primary lter over the safety
lter ( Figure 38 ).
Note: Ensure that the primary lter is fully
seated by pushing on the outer rim while
installing it.
Important: Do not press on the soft, inside
area of the lter .
4. Install the air-cleaner cover with the breather cap
down, and rotate so that the retaining clamps
lock the cover in place ( Figure 38 ).
5. Close the engine guard; refer to Opening the
Engine Guard ( page 29 ) .
Servicing the Engine Oil
Engine-Oil Specications
Oil T ype: Detergent oil (API service SJ or higher)
Engine Oil Capacity:
• Kawasaki FX691V/FX730V engines— 2.1 L (71
oz) with the lter; 1.8 L (61 oz) without the lter
• Kawasaki FX1000 engines— 1.9 L (64 oz) with
the lter; 1.7 L (57 oz) without the lter
V iscosity: Refer to the table below .
g037096
Figure 39
Note: Although 10W -40 engine oil is recommended
for most conditions, you may need to change oil
viscosity to accommodate atmospheric conditions.
Using 20W -50 engine oil in higher ambient
temperatures can reduce oil consumption.
Checking the Engine-Oil Level
Service Interval : Before each use or daily
Note: Check the oil when the engine is cold.
W ARNING
Contact with hot surfaces may cause personal
injury .
Keep your hands, feet, face, clothing and
other body parts away the mufer and other
hot surfaces.
Important: Do not overll the crankcase with oil
because damage to the engine may result. Do not
run engine with oil below the low mark because
the engine may be damaged.
1. Park the machine on a level surface, disengage
the PT O, and engage the parking brake.
