•Practicedrivingbeforeoperatingthemachine,
becauseithasahydrostatictransmission
anditscharacteristicsaredifferentthansome
turf-maintenancemachines.
•Tomaintainenoughpowerforthemachineand
deckwhilemowing,regulatethetractionpedalto
keeptheenginespeed(rpm)highandconstant.
Decreasethegroundspeedastheloadonthe
cuttingbladesincreases;increasetheground
speedastheloadonthebladesdecreases.This
allowstheengine,workingwiththetransmission,to
sensethepropergroundspeedwhilemaintaining
ahighblade-tipspeednecessaryforgoodquality
ofcut.Therefore,allowthetractionpedaltomove
upwardastheenginespeeddecreases,andpress
pedalslowlyasthespeedincreases.Whendriving
from1workareatoanother(withnoloadandthe
deckraised),havethrottleintheFASTpositionand
pressthetractionpedalslowlybutfullytoattain
themaximumgroundspeed.
•Beforeshuttingofftheengine,moveallcontrolsto
theNEUTRALpositionandmovethethrottletothe
SLOWposition.RotatethekeyswitchtotheOFF
positiontoshutofftheengine.
•Theenginedoesnotrunwhentheenginecoolant
isinover-temperaturecondition.Lettheengine
andcoolingsystemcool,andcheckthecooling
system;refertoCheckingtheCoolingSystemand
CoolantLevel(page62).
•Itisimportanttocarrysocketwrenchwitha100
mmextensionand17mmsocketwhileoperating
themachine.Usethesocketwrenchtoopen
thebypassvalveifyouneedtopushortowthe
machine.
AfterOperation
GeneralSafety
•Shutofftheengine,removethekey,andwait
forallmovementtostopbeforeyouleavethe
operator’sposition,Allowthemachinetocool
beforeadjusting,servicing,cleaning,orstoringit.
•Cleangrassanddebrisfromthecuttingunits,
mufers,andenginecompartmenttohelpprevent
res.Cleanupoilorfuelspills.
•Ifthecuttingunitsareinthetransportposition,use
thepositivemechanicallock(ifavailable)before
youleavethemachineunattended.
•Allowtheenginetocoolbeforestoringthemachine
inanyenclosure.
•Removethekeyandshutoffthefuel(ifequipped)
beforestoringorhaulingthemachine.
•Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwhere
thereisanopename,spark,orpilotlight,such
asonawaterheateroronotherappliances.
•Maintainandcleantheseatbelt(s)asnecessary

mmsocketand100mmextension.
Incaseofanemergency,youcantowthemachine
averyshortdistance.However,Torodoesnot
recommendthisasstandardprocedure.
Important:Pushingortowingthemachinefaster
than3to5km/h(2to3mph)maydamagethe
transmission.Ifyoumustmovethemachinea
longdistance,transportitonatruckortrailer.
Wheneveryoupushortowthemachine,openthe
bypassvalve.
