Tip: After a 20-second delay, during which the turbopump is starting, the roughing
pump starts. IntelliStart displays “Instrument in standby”, and the Operate LED
remains off.
c. Wait a minimum of 2 hours for the instrument to be fully pumped-down (evacuated).
Tip: In the Instrument Console, the System Ready indicator shows green when the
instrument is fully pumped-down (evacuated).
Warning: To prevent the ignition of flammable solvent vapors in the
enclosed space of a mass spectrometer’s ion source, ensure that these
conditions are met:
Nitrogen flows continuously through the source.
A gas-fail device is installed to interrupt the flow of LC solvent should
the nitrogen supply fail.
The nitrogen supply pressure does not fall below 400 kPa (4 bar, 58
psi) during an analysis requiring the use of flammable solvents.
6. Click Resolve or Operate .
Result: When the mass spectrometer is in good operating condition, IntelliStart software
displays Ready in the Instrument Console.
Tip: If clicking Resolve fails to put the instrument into Operate mode, IntelliStart
software displays corrective actions in the Instrument Console.
2.3 Starting the mass spectrometer using waters_connect
software
Starting the mass spectrometer comprises powering-on the host PC, logging in, powering-on the
mass spectrometer and all other instruments, and then starting the software.
Requirement: Prepare the mass spectrometer. See Preparing to start the mass spectrometer
(Page 38).
See also: The mass spectrometer’s online Help for details on the software.
To start the mass spectrometer using waters_connect software:
1. Start the host PC and log on.
2. Press the power switch on the top, left-hand side of the ACQUITY instruments.
Requirement: Switch on the instrument that contains the network switch first. This is
usually the Sample Manager.
