3. Adjust:
Final gear backlash

a. Select the suitable ring gear shim(s) and
thrust washer with the following chart.
b. If it is necessary to increase the final gear
backlash by more than 0.2 mm, reduce the
ring gear shim thickness by 0.2 mm for every
0.2 mm increase of thrust washer thickness.
c. If it is necessary to reduce the final gear back-
lash by more than 0.2 mm, increase the ring
gear shim thickness by 0.2 mm for every 0.2
mm decrease of thrust washer thickness.

DISASSEMBLING THE FINAL DRIVE
ASSEMBLY
1. Remove:
Universal joint (final drive side)
▼▼▼ ▼▼▼▼▼ ▼▼▼ ▼▼▼ ▼▼▼▼▼
a. Remove the circlips 1.
b. Place the universal joint in a press.
c. With a pipe 2 of the proper diameter posi-
tioned beneath the universal joint yoke 3 as
shown, press out the bearing 4.

It may be necessary to lightly tap the universal
joint yoke.
d. Repeat the above steps to remove the oppo-
site sides bearing.
e. Separate the universal joint yokes.

2. Remove:
Ring gear bearing housing bolts (M12) 1
Final drive case bolts (M8) 2

Working in a crisscross pattern, loosen each bolt
1/4 of a turn. After all of the bolts are fully loos-
ened, remove them.
3. Remove:
Universal joint yoke nut (final drive side)
Use a universal joint holder 1.
Thinner shim
Final gear backlash is in-
creased.
Thicker shim
Final gear backlash is de-
creased.
