Since the final drive pinion gear shims are
only available in 0.10 mm increments, round
off to the hundredths digit.
In the example above, the calculated final
drive pinion gear shim thickness is 0.28 mm.
The chart instructs you to round off the 8 to
10. Thus, you should use a 0.30 mm final
drive pinion gear shim.
c. To find ring gear shim thickness B, use the
following formula:
Where:
c = a numeral usually on the ring gear bearing
housing, to be divided by 100 and added to
11.9.
d = a numeral on the final drive case, to be di-
vided by 100 and added to 45.
e = a numeral (positive or negative) on the
ring gear, to be divided by 100 and added to
41.
f = the ring gear bearing thickness constant.
Example:
If the ring gear bearing housing is marked
17, the final drive case is marked 47, the
ring gear is marked - 08, and f is 15.90:
Therefore, the calculated ring gear shim
thickness is 0.62 mm.
Shim sizes are supplied in the following thick-
nesses.
Since the ring gear shims are only available
in 0.10 mm increments, round off the hun-
dredths digit.
In the example above, the calculated ring
gear shim thickness is 0.62 mm. The chart in-
structs you to round off the 2 to 0. Thus, you
should use a 0.60 mm ring gear shim.
