46 Agilent 7890 Series Troubleshooting
3 Chromatographic Symptoms
• Inspect the column for contamination. High molecular weight
samples that contain residues may cause the syringe, the
inlet liner, or the first few inches of column to become
contaminated.
• Install an Agilent column backflush system.
Detector, detector gas supply
• Check all gas trap indicators and dates.
• Verify the gas purity. Perform replicate runs, several with a
short interval between them, then several with a large
interval. If the contamination peaks are larger for the runs
made with the longer interval, suspect contaminated gas: the
contamination has more time to deposit onto the column and
liner.
• Check for supply tubing and fitting contamination.
• If you suspect that there is contamination in the detector,
perform the bakeout procedure (FID, TCD, uECD).
• Verify the operation of the detectors. Replace the
contaminated detector parts.

Jet
