B – THE LP PUMP
1 – LP PUMP INSTALLATION
The booster pump must be installed 200mm below the water line, between the hull valve and the filter 5µ (as indicated in Fig.
installation on board p22). There should be no air accumulation.
If the pump is placed too far or too high compared to the hull fitting, cavitation is possible. Cavitation produces jangling that might completely
destroy the pump
.
- This type of LP pump prohibits operation without water. It’s essential that starting takes place on its own and
automatically. The only solution: the pump must be installed below the water line, between the hull valve (V0) and the filter
5µ.
- To check that this installation is good, disconnect the pipe, which connects to the 5µ filter, open the hull valve, and then
the seawater must fill the entire system without it being necessary to start the LP pump. If this is not the case, start
installation again. Any air entering the circuit must be able to escape naturally from the LP pump.
Some examples of LP pump installation:
- The pump is imperatively at 200 mm below the water line,
- The hull valve (V0) should be placed below the LP pump,
- The rising line should be installed above the LP pump, so as to avoid air accumulation.
