3 – PUMP START-UP
3.1 – USING THE PUMP FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR IF IT IS UNPRIMED
These pumps cannot be run “dry”, and would be severely damaged if used without water. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to ensure that
the pump is filled with water before starting it up:
Fill up the pump and the hose A with water (fill the pipe which connects the pump to the hull valve),
Reconnect the hose to the pump,
Start the pump.
DRY OPERATION FOR MORE THAN 30 SECONDS WOULD IRREVERSIBLY DAMAGE THE PUMP
The seawater must be able to circulate freely without air bubbles.
Check the correct connection of the pump with the strainer and the filter 5µ to ensure a good start-up of the unit.
3.2 – STARTING-UP A PRIMED PUMP
When the pump has already been primed, it is possible to start up the pump immediately :
Start the pump,
Observe the gauge (5) of the Watermaker to see if it is working correctly after a few seconds. Pressure between 5 – 9 bar.
If the Watermaker does not start (or pressure is “0”), the pump might be unprimed, one of the valve (V0) or (1) is closed, or the
rinsing valve (11) is in bad position.
3.3 – MAINTENANCE OF THE PUMP
The only required maintenance of the pump, is to flush it with fresh water if it has to be stored for a long period. This is part of the normal
flushing and sterilization procedure.
NB :
A rinsing of the pump-barrel with fresh water before a stop of functioning of more than 3 days increases considerably the life of the
primed pump.
