Chapter 7: Maintenance and Care of the TubeSpec
80 NOV CTES Argus TubeSpec User Guide
Wear Items
Certain Argus TubeSpec parts have a limited lifetime due to wear:
Packers: These polyurethane elements should be replaced after 100,000 running feet if the tubing is well-
oiled during operation. The packers require replacement sooner if the oil coverage is sparse.
Tubing Guides: The white UHMW polyethylene tubing-guides should be serviceable for over 150,000
running feet because they are normally do not come into contact with the tubing. The tubing guides’ initial
size is 0.1" over nominal tubing diameter.
NOV CTES recommends that the operator inspect wear items after the completion of every job.
Post-job Checklist
When a job is complete, perform the following TubeSpec checks:
Measuring Head
• Check for loose or broken parts.
• Check the oiler-assembly latches and latch nuts for integrity.
• Inspect the proximity-probe cable-connectors and the associated cables for damage and loose connec-
tions. If a connector is loose, disconnect it, clean it as needed, and tighten it again.
• Inspect the electrical connectors and the connector caps for damage, moisture, and cleanliness.
• Clean the connectors as necessary with an electrical-contact cleaner and let them dry out before ener-
gizing the measuring head again.
• Inspect the sponges and scrapers in the oiler housings for damage and excessive wear, and change
them as necessary.
• Inspect the oiler-assembly bodies, latches, hoses, fittings, and scraper springs.
• Inspect the top and bottom covers and latches for damage.
Control Box and Cables
• Inspect the control box for any obvious damage.
• Inspect the cables and connectors for cleanliness and integrity.
• Clean the connectors as necessary with an electrical contact cleaner and let them dry.
It is an absolute requirement that the control box be disconnected from the measuring head before conducting
any welding on the CT unit. Damage to the system will result from non-compliance!
Lube Tank, Oiler-assembly Controls, Packer-pressure Controls
• Visually inspect the following:
