1.4 Data Transfer between Test Bed and PUMA
Open System
At the PUMA Open system, demand values are calculated and trans-
ferred to the output modules. At the F-FEM-DAC, the digital demand
values are converted into analog quantities (current/voltage) again,
e.g. to control a throttle actuator.
1.5 Typographic Conventions
This document uses a number of icons, text styles and typefaces to
distinguish between the various types of information found within the

1 PUMA Open PC
2 IEEE 1394 PC board PCI, via which all signals of the F-FEM
modules are transferred to/from the PUMA Open system.

4 Engine test bed – analog signals (speed, torque, etc.) are
output using actuators fixed at/in the engine.
