• Tail Rotor Drive Shaft Hangers and Coupling —
Distortion beyond the limits specified in
BHT-430-CR&O.
A rotating system torque spike is defined as any other incident
which causes a severe torque spike in the drive system. These
incidents include, but are not limited to, incidents where large
foreign objects are ingested through mesh in any gearbox.
When any of these sudden stoppage incidents are reported, do
the steps that follow:
1. Do the inspection that follows if the sudden stoppage was
caused by a main rotor strike.
a. Main rotor blades:
(1) Examine the main rotor blades for damage such as
cracks, bond voids and delamination.
(2) If you find damage on any blade, return all blades
to an authorized overhaul facility. Make an entry in the
component record to show that the reason for removal was a
sudden stoppage.
(3) You may keep all blades in service if no damage
was found on any blade.
b. Main rotor yokes:
(1) You may keep the main rotor yokes in service if the
main rotor blades were not damaged.
(2) If there was damage to the main rotor blades,
examine the yokes for cracks, debonding or damage.
BHT-430-CR&O-2 (3) If the yoke is damaged beyond the limits, scrap the
yoke.
