d. Tail rotor gearbox:
(1) Remove the tail rotor gearbox. Examine the
gearbox for cracks, sheared or bent attach studs or dowel pin.
Examine the tail rotor gearbox case and output shaft for signs of
distortion. Remove and scrap the gearbox if you find any
damage.
BHT-430-CR&O-3 (2) If you can not find any of the conditions listed in
step (1), do a an overhaul of the tail rotor gearbox. Make an
entry in the component record to show that the reason for
removal was a sudden stoppage.
e. In all cases, examine the systems that follow:
(1) Examine the tail rotor gearbox, vertical fin and the
tail rotor guard attach-fittings for cracks, sheared rivets or
damage to the connecting bolts.
(2) Examine the boosted tail rotor flight controls from
the hydraulic actuator to the pitch change linkage for damage to
the tubes, bellcranks, supports, fairleads and the bearings.
Closely examine the support bellcranks and links installed on
the tail rotor gearbox.
(3) Examine the tailboom structure for distortion,
cracks, loose or sheared rivets. Closely examine the tail rotor
driveshaft support structure and the tailboom to fuselage attach
area.
f. If you replaced the tail rotor gearbox, tail rotor driveshaft
or the tail rotor driveshaft hanger assemblies because of
damage, remove the transmission and do the evaluation that
follows in accordance with the BHT-430-CR&O-2. Make an
entry in the component record to show that the reason for
removal was a sudden stoppage.
BHT-430-CR&O-2 (1) Replace the collector gear.
(2) Examine the collector gearshaft for runout of the
gear mount flange. The runout of the gear mount flange shall
not be more than 0.0004 inch (0.0101 mm) when you mount the
gearshaft on centers or on the bearing journals. Inspect the
collector gearshaft with magnetic particle inspection.
