8 Help with faults
8.1 Faults, possible causes and remedies
Fault Possible cause Remedy
Device does not work. Master switch is off. u Switch on master switch.
Device is not connected
to a power supply.
u Check power supply.
The outlet of the pump
or a downstream device
is closed off.
u Make sure that all outlets are
open.
System is leaking (leak-
age rate is greater than
5 mbar) and cannot
achieve terminal vac-
uum. See also operat-
ing instructions of Inter-
face I-300/I-300 Pro,
section "Performing
leak test".
Connections reversed. Join up connections as de-
scribed in Chapter5.4 "Connect-
ing laboratory equipment",
page22.
GL14 union nuts and
tube seals not correctly
fitted or are damaged.
u Inspect GL14 union nuts and
tube seals, (see Chap-
ter7.2.5 "Replacing connect-
ing tubes", page50).
Tubing leaking (and
brittle).
u Replace tubing (see Chap-
ter7.2.5 "Replacing connect-
ing tubes", page50).
Diaphragm and/or
valves dirty.
u Clean or replace diaphragm
and/or valves (see Chap-
ter7.2.3 "Replacing the di-
aphragm", page47 and
Chapter7.2.4 "Replacing the
non-return valve", page48).
Valve O-rings are leak-
ing.
u Replace O-rings (see Chap-
ter7.2.6 "Replacing O-rings",
page53).
Pump fails to start. Casing front not prop-
erly closed.
u Check seating of casing front
and correct if necessary. The
cover is fixed by two knurled-
head screws.
Pump starts then stops
again shortly afterwards
(in standalone opera-
tion).
Fan is defective. u Contact BUCHI Customer
Service.
