ENGINE CARE
The cleaning practices that are necessary for proper maintenance
of the engine compressor are as follows:
1. Water Rinse. To be accomplished on a daily basis when
operating in a salt water or other corrosive environment.
2. Cleaning. To regain lost performance due to buildup of dirt.
Cleaning is normally required after 200-300 hours of
operation in smoggy areas.
Refer to the Engine Operations and Maintenance Manual for the
detailed procedures.
The engine compartment should be cleaned using a suitable
solvent (P-S-661 or equivalent). Most efficient cleaning is done
using a spray-type cleaner. Before spray cleaning, ensure that
protection is afforded those components, which might be
adversely affected by the solvent, particularly the starter
generator and the bleed air system. Refer to the Airplane
Maintenance and the Engine Operation and Maintenance
Manuals for proper lubrication of controls and components after
engine cleaning.
