Backing Up and Restoring the Configuration Data of
the SDX Appliance
Feb 14, 20 14
The backup policy runs at 00:30 A.M. every day. You can create a backup file at any time if, for example, you want to
immediately back up changes to the configuration. You can use the backup file to restore the configuration data on the
appliance. You can restore the configuration data of the XenServer, Management Service, and all the NetScaler instances,
or selected NetScaler instances.
To restore the configuration data on an SDX appliance, the Management Service selects the latest NetScaler .XVA image
to provision the NetScaler instances. Citrix recommends that you store only the version of the NetScaler .XVA image that
you require to reprovision the NetScaler instances. If you store multiple .XVA images, the Management Service might
provision a NetScaler instance by using an image that is different from the one that you require. In this case, after restoring
you must log on to the NetScaler instance and upgrade the software.
Important: You must manually back up other files, such as licenses and SSL certificates, outside the appliance before
restoring the NetScaler instance because only the configuration files are restored.
To perform an immediate backup
1. Navigate to Configuration > Management Service > Backup Files.
2. In the Backup File pane, under Action drop-down list, click Back Up.
3. In the Confirm dialog box, click Yes. This process may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of data to be
backed up.
Restoring the Appliance
You can restore the NetScaler SDX appliance to the configuration available in the backup file. During the appliance restore,
all the current configuration is deleted.
Before you restore the configuration, make sure that:
After you perform factory reset, you upgrade the following NetScaler SDX appliance components to the version that
was running in the system at the time of backup:
Management Service
Xen Server
Supplemental Pack
Hot Fixes
Upload the appropriate license files that was present earlier in the system.
Upload the XVA images or NetScaler build images that was present in the system at the time of backup
If your Management Service version is lesser than 10.5 54.x, then make sure that you re-create the channels at system
level from Management Service
These channels should be re-created in the same order and with the same member interfaces as seen at the time of
backup.
To restore the conguration
1. Navigate to Configuration > Management Service > Backup Files.
2. In the Backup File pane, select the backup file from the list, and then under Action, click Restore.
