To Check the Belt Tension:
1. Park the truck in a designated service
area.
2. Turn the ignition key switch to the ‘0’ (off)
position and remove the key.
3. Open the bonnet from the rear of the
truck.
4. Apply a force of 98N (10lbf) to the belt
half way between the alternator pulley
and the fan drive pulley.
5. The belt should deflect by between
7mm (0.28˝) and 9mm (0.35˝).
6. If the belt deflects by more or less than
the permissible amount, the tension
must be adjusted.
V-belt Tension Adjustment Procedure:
1. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts and adjust the alternator position using a
lever placed between the alternator and the engine block.
2. Tighten the mounting bolts and recheck the belt tension.
3. Adjust until the specified deflection is achieved.
4. Close the bonnet.
6.13 Air Filter System
The truck is equipped with a dry air filter for filtering the engine intake air.
The dry air filter should be maintained in accordance with the maintenance schedule,
however more frequent maintenance will be required if the truck is operating in high
dust applications.
The dry air filter is mounted under the bonnet at the right hand side of the truck.
Caution
Switch off the engine before working on the air filter system.
Do not touch the engine, exhaust system, or cooling system immediately
after stopping the engine.
Wait until the engine has cooled to the point that the exhaust system,
engine, and cooling system are comfortable to touch.
