10. Take measurements between the string and the
gussets where the base of the rear OPS support
structure meets the floor of the vehicle.
See Figure 4.18.
11. Interpretation:
11a. The measurement between the string and
the target point should be between 5/8”
and 1-1/4” (16-32mm).
11b. The measurement should be equal on
both sides of the vehicle, with the steering
wheel visually centered in the straight-
ahead position.
11c. If the above conditions are not met,
adjustment is necessary.
NOTE: The track of the rear wheels is narrower
than the track of the front wheels. A string
stretched between the front and rear wheels will
not give an accurate indication of toe angle.
12. Adjusting the toe angle:
NOTE: Because the tie rods are behind the pivot
point of the wheels (that imaginary line drawn
between the two ball joints):
• Lengthening either tie rod pushes the alignment
in the toe-in direction.
• Shortening either tie rod pushes the alignment in
the toe-out direction.
13. To correct the illustrated toe-in condition on the
left front wheel, shorten the tie rod.
See Figure 4.19.
13a. Hold the tie rod using a 14mm wrench,
and loosen the jam nut that locks the tie
rod end using a 17mm wrench.
13b. Make an index mark on the tie rod, to keep
track of the amount and direction of
adjustments that are made, in case
adjustment takes several tries.
13c. Rotate the tie rod, threading it further into
the tie rod end to shorten it, or back it out
of the tie rod end to lengthen it.
NOTE: Both tie rods have right-hand threads.
