Figure 7 Correlating physical slot and Ethernet network names
2. Create a table for your own use, similar to the example table shown below:
l
Base the table on the RHEL port definitions for the relevant server type
described in Server node port designations - Linux R630/R730xd servers on
page 46.
l
In the Port row, record the enXXX names that correspond with the PCI
slots.
l
Map each line in turn from Step 1.a on page 48 output to the corresponding
line in Step 1.b on page 49 output.
Note: In 1U1N and 2U1N platforms, the 1 GB port on the right is used for
management, and the left 10 GB ports on both NICs are used for data.
For example, the last column in the following table was created using the
information from the 4th line in steps 1.a on page 48 and 1.b on page 49:
VxFlex OS role
... Optional VxFlex OS Data2 2nd port
Port enp6s0f0
Slot name PCIe Slot 6 Port 0
Logical bus address 0000:05:00.0
Physical port on node PCI 10G Left
Speed 0 GB
Networking and connectivity - 14G servers
This section explains network connectivity, cabling best practices, and the most
common port configurations for 14G VxFlex Ready Node servers.
Networking connectivity architecture and cabling best practice (R640, R740XD servers)
This topic describes connectivity architecture, cabling best practice information, and
cable connection examples from typical VxFlex Ready Node configurations in order to
help you plan your network.
Note:
If you are not familiar with VxFlex Ready Node system architecture, refer to
the "System" section in this document.
On ESXi servers, VLANs can be used as long as the broadcast domain is the same
between the AMS/Discovery Server and the ESXi management port. For all OS types,
the best way to use VLANs with VxFlex Ready Node is to configure the switch port to
Mode Access, and assign it to one VLAN. A management switch that has only one use
is recommended. Usually, this implies one IP subnet, but the switch can contain
several subnets on a single VLAN.
