• Keep battery clean and
dry.
• Undo dirty clamps.
• Clean terminal posts
(+
and -) and clamps
of the battery, and grease with acid-free
and acid-resistant grease.
• When reassembling, ensure that clamps
make good contact. Tighten clamp bolts
hand-tight.
• Remove sealing caps

• If testers 2 are present:
Electrolyte level should reach the base of
these.
• Without testers:
The electrolyte level should be 10-15
mm
above the top of the plates.
• If necessary, top up with distilled water.
• Screw sealing caps back
in
.
• Measure the electrolyte densityofindividual
cells with a commercial hydrometer.
The hydrometer reading (see table on
following page) indicates the battery's state
of
charge. During measurement, the
temperature
of
the electrolyte should pref-
erably
be
20°C.
