Ultrasonic Contact Probe
The Ultrasonic Contact Probe (UCP1) is clamped on to the area of interest using the magnets surrounding the
sensor plate. Any air gap between the sensor head and measurement point will effectively attenuate signals to
a level where even strong discharges will not be detected. Therefore, before any permanent or temporary
installation, the sensor head and asset surface need to be cleaned of any loose or unstable material. If the
assets surface is very rough and uneven this will create air gaps which will result in poor contact between the
sensor head and the asset.
The UCP1 should be attached to a relatively flat and smooth surface.
Using suitable couplant in the case of a rough surface e.g water
based, oil based or existing stickers such as warning notices.
Carefully pressing the UCP1 towards the asset to increase coupling
may eliminate the need to use a couplant.
