PURPOSEANDAPPLICATION
TheMMS6110dual-channelshaftvibrationmonitorispartoftheMMS6000machinemoni-
toring system. In connection with two eddy current measuring chains, the microprocessor
controlledmoduleservesmeasurementandsupervisionofrelativeshaftvibrationsatallkind
ofturbines,compressors,fansandgearboxes.
Duringconfigurationthetwochannelsofthemonitormaybedefinedforseparatemeasure-
mentorforthecombineduse.Thefollowingmodesarepossible:
• Dualchannelmodewithtwoseparatechannels.
Foreachchanneltheconfigurationparameters(measuringrange,typeoftransducer,limit
valuesetc.),canbedefinedseparately.Eachchannelcalculatesitsowncharacteristical
value(peak-peakorzero-peakvalue)andchecksitonlimitexceedingsandfaultsofthe
measuringchain.
• CalculationandoutputofmaximumvalueSmax.
TheresultingmaximumvalueSmaxoftheshaftvibrationforthemeasuringdirectionsX
andYaccordingtoDIN45670(characteristicalvalueA)iscalculatedbygeometricaladdi-

Thecharacteristicalvalue,outputandcheckedonlimitexceedings,isformedbythe
greatestofthetwomeasuringvaluesofchannels1or2inXandY-measuringdirection.
Thecharacteristicalvalueisoutputasimpressedcurrentofeither0...20or4...20mA.
Additionally,thereisananalogoutput,providingastandardizedd.c.outputNGLof0...+10V
proportionaltothestaticdistancebetweensensorandmeasuringtarget.
For checkingthesignals on limitexceedings,therearetwoalarm channels, each of them
withonewarning(Alert)andonedangerlevel.Inthedualchanneloperatingmodethechar-
acteristicalvalueissupervisedbytherelevantalarmchannel.Thelimitvaluesforprealarm
(ALERT)andmainalarm(DANGER)maybeadjustedseparately.

characteristicalvalue,calculatedfrombothchannels,issupervisedbythealarmchannelsof
bothmeasuringchannels-butwithonlyone"Alert"andone"Danger"limit.
During configuration the alarm outputs can be activated and the limit values defined. The
alarmstatusisshownbytworedLEDsonthefrontofthemonitor.Themoduleprovidesfour
relaydriveroutputswhichcanalternativelybeswitchedtonormallyclosedornormallyopen
operationmode.
Input"Alarmblocking"permitsblockingofthealarmoutputsbymeansofanexternalsignal.
Duringconfiguration,responsedelayandalarmblockingatfaultsituationscanbedefined.
TwogreenLEDsonthefrontandtworelaydriveroutputsindicatethestatusofchanneland
monitor supervision. In the normal state, i.e., if neither the channel nor the module super-
vision have detected an error, if the channel measurement is in the settled state and the
alarmsarenotblocked,message"ChannelClear=OK"willbeindicated.
