INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE
Replace bent cranks and chain-rings. Do not attempt to straighten. Pedals
will require greasing occasionally, especially after riding in water. After the rst
50 miles, tighten crank bolts, and check chain-ring bolts and pedal spindles.
GENERAL
This section is intended to be a general guide for inspecting your bicycle.
Detailed instructions for maintenance and repair will be found in the
"Assembly and Adjustment" section of this manual.
Nuts and bolts should be re-tightened every 1- 2 weeks. Check frequently for
damaged parts, fork alignment, and positioning of all components.
BRAKES
Regularly Inspect brake pads for wear, replacing when necessary. Wipe off
any oil or dirt that accumulates on rims.
CONTROL CABLES
Cables stretch with use. Inspect them regularly, taking up slack and replacing
when worn or damaged. Never allow cables to kink.
FORKS
Bent or damaged forks should be replaced. Never attempt to repair by
straightening.
HEAD SET
Keep locknut tight, making sure there is no play in the bearings. The fork
should turn freely.
FRONT WHEEL
Wheel should be centered in front fork with axle nuts tight. Keep spokes tight
and rim true. The hub is sealed from dirt and moisture, however, it should be
inspected periodically, especially after riding in water. Remove the front wheel
and tum the axle with your hands. It should move freely, with very little friction
or play.
CRANK AND PEDALS
REAR WHEEL
Wheel should be centered in frame with axle nuts/quick releases tight. Keep
spokes and rims true. This sealed-bearing hub can be inspected by removing
the wheel and turning the axle with your hands. It should move freely, with
very little friction or play.
