The NUC process should be repeated whenever the output image 
becomes spatially noisy as shown in the left image in Figure 3-5.  The 
output can become spatially noisy when the environmental temperature 
changes (such as from day to night operation and vice versa).  NUCs 
should be performed to align the sensitivities of the individual pixels as 
shown in the right picture.  This will enable optimum detection and 
recognition.
