3.7.2 Scene Lock Mode (SCENE)
The Scene Lock mode is used to hold the ‘scene’ in position without
operator inputs. It uses a tracking method called “Area Correlation” to
remember the entire image on the display monitor. It is the most
effective mode for tracking stationary targets, landscapes (unbounded),
but it won’t track a moving target. It would be selected in law
enforcement when orbiting a crime scene so the activities on the ground
are observed in real time video. In this mode, you can freely change
between sensors and zoom positions without breaking lock.
When selecting the SCENE mode, there will be no tracking window
displayed. You are locking on the entire scene on the monitor. The
words Track Mode will tell you that you have track. Feel free to change
from sensor-to-sensor in this mode.
Should you break lock, Rate Mode will appear at the middle left of the
display. Press the TRACKER O/I Switch again to re-acquire Auto-track.
3.7.3 Centroid Statistical Mode (CENT STA)
This Centroid Mode is referred to as “Statistical” and is used for tracking
moving targets (bounded) which have both white and black
predominance and, due to their maneuvering, change from one to the
other rapidly. Consider it a fallback mode if you experience frequent
break lock with either CENT WHT or CENT BLK.
3.7.4 Centroid White Mode (CENT WHT)
The Centroid White mode is used for tracking moving targets (bounded),
which are brighter than the background. The tracker does not recognize
color, only contrast, so this mode is best for:
Hot targets when in IR white-hot polarity
Cold targets when in IR black-hot polarity
Light colored targets when in Color CCD
The tracker tries to reject any similar targets, which enter the tracking
window. It does this quite reliably when the obstruction approaches from
the opposite direction of the target because of the Auto-Tracker’s
predictive position capability. Overtaking a target can confuse the
tracker, particularly if it passes between the observer and the target
under track. In this instance, the tracker may “adopt” the overtaken
target as its new target.
