Even though materials with different thermal conductivity’s are used in
wall construction, the SeaFLIR II may not always be able to find them.
There must be a difference in temperature from one side of the
object to the other for heat transfer to occur! Without a temperature
difference, the SeaFLIR II will not find internal wall components.
Since the wavelengths of light, that the SeaFLIR II detects, are not in the
same waveband as visible light, they can have different emitted
(efficiency of an object’s surface to emit light), reflected (light from other
sources and redirected from the surface of an object) and transmitted
(percentage of light that can pass through an object) properties.
Thin plastics will transmit 3.4 – 5.0μm light with ease regardless of the
visible color of the plastic.

Glass does not transmit 3.4 – 5.0μm light easily. Thick glass or double
pane glass will usually be difficult for the SeaFLIR II Infrared camera to
see through.
Water does not transmit 3.4 – 5.0μm light.
