J - 2 DISINFECTING THE FRESH WATER
SYSTEM
The fresh (potable) water system should be
disinfected prior to initial use.
Thewatersystemshouldbedisinfectedbeforerst
use and at the beginning of each season. The follow-
i
ng information is a general guide to disinfecting the
fresh water system.
1. Flush the boat’s water system thoroughly with
fresh water. Make sure all non-toxic antifreeze
is removed from the system.
2. The water system should be drained completely.
3. To disinfect the water system, use one gallon of
water and 1/4 cup of household bleach (5% so-
dium hypochlorite solution). This is recommended
for each 15 gallons of tank capacity.
4. Allow to stand for three (3) hours. If time is a
factor, greater concentrations of chlorine solution
will be needed to disinfect the water system.
5. Drain the system.
6. Flush the system thoroughly with fresh water.
7. Fill the system with fresh water.
To remove excessive chlorine taste or odor which
might remain in the system, prepare a solution of
onequartvinegartovegallonswaterandallowthis
solution to agitate in the tank for several days during
boating.Thendraintankandrellwithfreshwater.
The cockpit sinks are equipped with traps, and the
water will drain slowly. If the system is not operating
properly, have it checked by your authorized Four
Winns dealer.

models are equipped with a fresh
water supply system. This system consists of a water
supply tank, water distribution lines and a distribution
pump. Refer to Figure J-12 at the end of this section

and is marked “WATER”. The location of the water

depending upon the model and optional equipment
installed.
The water deck plate is appropriately labeled
WATER. DO NOT ll the system with anything
other than water. Should the system become
contaminated with fuel or other toxic solution,
complete system or component replacement
may be necessary.
The water tank is equipped with an overboard vent.
Maintain a close visual watch on the overboard vent
whilellingthewatertank.Alwaysllthetankslowly.
When the tank is almost full, water will spurt out of
t
he vent.
NOTICE
When lling the tank, never seal the hose to
the deck plate. The tank would become
pressurized and could rupture.
NOTICE
DO NOT overll the water tank. Tank damage
may result. Water capacity and tank location
may vary due to other equipment that may be
installed on the boat.

The materials from which the components of the water
system are made may give the water supply a peculiar
taste, especially when new. This condition is normal
and can be reduced somewhat through the use of a
waterlter;suchasthatproducedbyPuriTec™.
T
he taste should completely dissipate in time.
