16. LOW POWER / BATTERY OPERATION
By the use of current limiting resistors on the inputs of the GSM Commander and Expansion Units,
the GSM Commander can operate more efficiently in terms of current consumption. This is
particularly important when the GSM Commander is powered by means of a battery connected to a
solar panel or any other alternative source of power generation.
To connect a switch or contact to an input, simply connect the switch between the + and +IN
terminals, and a 5k6 resistor between the and IN– terminals. The reverse is just as suitable, i.e.
that you connect a 5k6 resistor between + and +IN and place the switch between – and IN–. This will
decrease each input's current consumption (when active) from 25mA to 2mA.
Similarly a 5K6 resistor can be connected to all the inputs of the Expansion Unit(s) to decrease each
input's current consumption (when active).
Please Note: The above results were obtained by connecting a 14V switching power supply to the
GSM Commander.
