Figure 1-37 Definition of FC Port
HBA-core dedicated mode
Overview
HBA-core dedicated mode is an optional function for FC ports that are set for
shared fibre channels (FCs). For an ordinary shared FC, multiple LPARs use
multiple processing cores (HBA cores) existing in an FC adapter in a round-
robin manner to send and receive data (see FC Port 1 (HBA-core dedicated
mode is disabled) in the figure below). Therefore, for I/O processing between
LPARs that share the same FC port, performance is determined on a best-
effort basis, and performance cannot be guaranteed.
However, for a shared FC with HBA-core dedicated mode enabled, only
specific HBA cores are responsible for sending and receiving data of specific
LPARs, and are not affected by other LPARs (see FC Port 0 (HBA-core
dedicated mode is enabled) in the figure below). This prevents performance
degradation due to I/O load by other LPARs that share the same FC port, thus
ensuring stable performance.
