Power-on Reset
Themostfundamentalandunavoidableresetistheonethatoccursafterpowerisrstappliedto
themicrocontroller.AswellasensuringthattheProgramMemorybeginsexecutionfromtherst
memoryaddress,apower-onresetalsoensuresthatcertainotherregistersarepresettoknown
conditions.AlltheI/Oportandportcontrolregisterswillpowerupinahighconditionensuringthat
allpinswillberstsettoinputs.

AlthoughthemicrocontrollerhasaninternalRCresetfunction,iftheV
DD
powersupplyrisetime
isnotfastenoughordoesnotstabilisequicklyatpower-on,theinternalresetfunctionmaybe
incapableofprovidingproperresetoperation.Forthisreasonitisrecommendedthatanexternal
RCnetworkisconnectedtotheRESpin,whoseadditionaltimedelaywillensurethattheRESpin
remainslowforanextendedperiodtoallowthepowersupplytostabilise.Duringthistimedelay,
normaloperationofthemicrocontrollerwillbeinhibited.AftertheRESlinereachesacertain
voltagevalue,theresetdelaytimet

isinvokedtoprovideanextradelaytimeafterwhichthe
microcontrollerwillbeginnormaloperation.TheabbreviationSSTintheguresstandsforSystem
Start-upTimer.

betweenVSSandtheRESpinwillprovideasuitableexternalresetcircuit.Anywiringconnected

applicationsthatoperatewithinanenvironmentwheremorenoiseispresenttheEnhancedReset
Circuitshownisrecommended.
