a ball gauge or inside micrometer.

Inspect each valve for bending, burning,
scratches or abnormal stem wear.
Check the valve movement in the guide.
Measure and record each valve stem O.D.
Subtract each valve stem
0.0. from the cor-
responding guide I.D. to obtain the stem to
guide clearance.

NOTE
the service limits, determine if a new
guide with standard dimensions would
bring the clearance within tolerance. If
so, replace any guides as necessary and
If stem-to-guide clearance still exceeds the
service limits with new guides, replace the
valves and guides.
NOTE
Reface the valve seats whenever the
valve guider are replaced.
