Place the vang on the deck immediately aft of the
mast. Position the end with the control line to exit the
last sheave of the vang assembly facing aft.
Refer to Fig. 12.23 and attach the vang hardware as
directed based on the type of vang (rope or solid).
Route the vang line as illustrated in Fig. 12.23.
From the mast base block, the line continues to the
port organizer, under the sea hood and on to the
sheet stopper.
12.7.9 Mainsail Installation
NOTE: Raising the mainsail should not be done with the wind astern.
For the standard rig mainsail, complete the following
steps:
Lower the main halyard and attach the halyard shack-
le to the clew of the mainsail head.
Provide some slack to the mainsheet.
Insert the first mainsail slider into the aft mast grove.
Continue feeding the mainsail sliders into the groove
while rasing the main halyard until all sliders are
installed..
Back the remaining luff down the grove until it can be
connected to the tack hook).
Route the halyard control line down to the mast base
block and continue as described in the Running
Rigging section above.
Position the foot of the sail along the boom and atta-
che the boom outhaul to the clew as described in the
Running Rigging section above.
For the furling rig mainsail, complete the following steps:
Open and remove the 4 inspections covers on the
mast.
Locate the sail feeding location within the top set of
inspection openings (the main furling foil and the foil
connection rod which connects to the furling drum
should be visible).
Feed the head of the sail through the mast slot and
into the main foil (Fig. 12.6).
Lower the main halyard and attach the halyard shack-
le to the strap sewn onto the mainsail head (requires
an allen wrench).

Continue feeding the mainsail into the foil while ras-
ing the main halyard until the tack loop is level with
the large tack shackle.
Back the remaining luff down the foil from the sail
entry location until it can be connected to the tack
shackle through the lower inspection ports (ensure
the luff is fully within the foil from shackle to shackle)
(Fig. 12.7).
Replace the mast inspection covers.
Route the halyard control line down to the mast base
block and continue as described in the Running
Rigging section above.
Position the foot of the sail along the boom and atta-
che the boom outhaul to the tach as described in the
Running Rigging section above.
