7.1 Test Purpose
To measure and record the common-mode output voltage of the transmitter.
7.2 Specification
When transmitting data and using the test fixture shown in IEEE 802.3, Figure 40-32, the common-
mode output voltage, Ecm_out, on any transmit pair shall be less than 50 mV peak-to-peak.
7.3 Test Equipment
• Digitizing oscilloscope with 1 GHz or greater bandwidth
• Differential probes with 1 GHz or greater bandwidth
7.4 Test Fixtures
• Test Fixture 40-32 (Appendix A)
7.5 Test Procedure
1. Connect the test equipment as shown in the figure below. Note: it is important to pay close
attention to the grounding of test fixture 40-32. Inadequate grounding may lead to erroneous
