TCP/IP — Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. A set of network protocols and
associated tools that originated in the UNIX and internet environments. It has become the stan

dard protocol used when configuring networks.
Topology — See network topology.
Web Server — A program accepting requests for information framed conforming to HTTP
(HyperText Transfer Protocol). The web server processes the requests and provides the
requested information.
Winsock — An open standard specifying how a dynamic link library (DLL) should be
written to provide TCP/IP support.
l0Base2 — Coaxial cable running a l0Mbit/sec with a distance limit of 185 meters per
segment.
10Base5 — Thick coaxial cable running at l0Mbit/sec with a distance limit or 500 meters
per segment.
l0BaseT/l00BaseTX — Unshielded twisted pair running 10/100 Mbit/sec. Maximum cable
length l00m.
