Using the Protection Function
Protection function
Each input has independent protection functions. A front panel status indicator will turn on when a protection
function is set. Protection functions are latching, which means that they must be cleared once they are set.
Of the following protection functions, only OC, LIM+ and UVI are user-programmable.
OV: Over-voltage protection is a hardware OVP whose trip level is non-programmable and is fixed at 110% of
the rated input voltage. OVP is enabled by default.
OV-: Negative voltage protection is a hardware OVP.
OC: Over-current protection is a programmable function that can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, the
input will be disabled when the input current reaches the current limit setting.
OT: Over-temperature protection monitors the temperature of each input and shuts down the input if any tem-
perature exceeds the maximum factory-defined limits.
CP+: CP+ indicates that a positive power limit condition has disabled the input. Refer to Over-Power Protection
for further information.
INH: The Inhibit input (pin 3) on the rear panel digital connector can be programmed to act as an external shut-
down signal. Refer to Inhibit Input for further information.
LIM+: In CV, CP and CV mode, LIM+ indicates the input is in positive current limit. In CC mode, LIM+ indicates
the input is in positive voltage limit.
UVI: Under-voltage inhibit (UVI) protection. UVI is disabled by default. Refer to Under Voltage Inhibit for further
information.
Configuring protection
Protection functions are configured on the Load Settings window.
Press Load Settings to access the Load Settings window. Next, press Protection to access the protection functions.
OC Protection
With over-current protection enabled, the load disables the input if the input current reaches the current limit
setting, which causes a transition from CV to CC mode.
Press OCP State On to enable over-current protection.
